SAN FRANCISCO, CA—The San Francisco Symphony’s Film Series returns in the 2022–23 season, featuring the Orchestra performing live accompaniment to eight iconic films as they are projected on a large screen above the stage. The Film Series kicks off September 16 & 17 with Star Wars: A New Hope, featuring Damon Gupton conducting the San Francisco Symphony in John Williams’ original soundtrack. Next up is Disney’s classic Halloween film, Hocus Pocus, with Sarah Hicks leading the Orchestra in John Debney’s score, October 25. On November 22, Tim Davies conducts the Orchestra in Disney’s Fantasia—featuring highlights from Disney’s groundbreaking animated feature films Fantasia (1940) and its sequel Fantasia 2000; and on November 25 & 26, the Orchestra presents Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, featuring music by Nino Rota conducted by Stephen Mulligan.

The San Francisco Symphony’s holiday season includes two film presentations—Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas, featuring music by James Horner conducted by Joshua Gersen, December 16 & 17; and Jon Favreau’s Elf with John Jesensky conducting the Orchestra in John Debney’s score, December 21 & 22.

Film programming continues after the holidays with performances of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, featuring music by John Williams conducted by Constantine Kitsopoulos, January 6 & 7; and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, with Anthony Parnther leading the Orchestra in Ludwig Göransson’s score, March 24 & 25.

Health & Safety Information
Davies Symphony Hall is currently operating at full audience capacity. Based on the advice of the San Francisco Symphony’s Health and Safety Task Force, a face covering is strongly recommended but not required for entry into Davies Symphony Hall beginning with the start of the Orchestra’s 2022–23 season. The San Francisco Symphony requires proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 for everyone entering Davies Symphony Hall ages 12 and up who’s eligible—including patrons, performers, volunteers, and staff. “Full vaccination” is defined as two weeks after completion of the two-dose regimen of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine, or other WHO authorized COVID-19 vaccine. At this time, proof of booster shots is not required. Patrons under age 12 must show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test (PCR test taken within 2 days of event entry or antigen [rapid] test taken within 1 day of event entry).
