Biography

Joélle Harvey regularly appears with leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. On the operatic stage, she has performed
at the Metropolitan Opera; Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Glyndebourne; and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. She made her Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2019 and has appeared at the BBC Proms in Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, and Bach’s B-minor Mass. She also performed John Adams’s El Niño at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and with the London Symphony, in a performance conducted by the composer. She made her San Francisco Symphony debut in June 2009.

Ms. Harvey began the 2023–24 season with the English Concert at Wigmore Hall. In addition to the SF Symphony, she sings Handel’s Messiah this season with the Chicago Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, and Handel and Haydn Society. She also appears in Fauré’s Requiem with the National Symphony and on a program of Haydn and Mozart with Handel and Haydn. Season debuts include the Houston Symphony with Orff’s Carmina burana and the New World Symphony for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

Ms. Harvey received second prize in Houston Grand Opera’s Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, first prize from the Gerda Lissner Foundation, and was awarded a Sara Tucker Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation. She is a recipient of the Shoshana Foundation’s Richard F. Gold Career Grant, and was also presented with the John Alexander Memorial Award and the Sam Adams Award for Achievement in Acting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
