Sean Panikkar (Oedipus) achieved a break-out success in his 2018 Salzburg Festival debut as Dionysus in a new production of Hans Werner Henze’s The Bassarids and was critically acclaimed that year in his Los Angeles Opera debut as Gandhi in Philip Glass’s Satyagraha.

Highlights this season include the principal role in Luigi Nono’s Intolleranza 1960 at the Salzburg Festival, Satyagraha at English National Opera, and a Vienna State Opera debut as Tambourmajor in a new production of Alban Berg’s Wozzeck. Concert appearances include Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Minnesota Orchestra and Charlotte Symphony.

As an interpreter of contemporary music, Mr. Panikkar premiered roles in Giorgio Battistelli’s CO2 for a debut at Teatro alla Scala, Daniel Sonenberg’s The Summer King in a co-production of Pittsburgh Opera and Michigan Opera Theatre, David T. Little’s JFK at the Fort Worth Opera and Opéra de Montréal, and the title role in Jack Perla’s Shalimar the Clown for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Engagements with the Metropolitan Opera include the company premiere of John Adams’s The Death of Klinghoffer and a new production of Giaochino Rossini’s Guillaume Tell, among others.

Mr. Panikkar is also a member of Forte, an operatic crossover trio that debuted on America’s Got Talent in 2013. An alumnus of San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellowship program, he made his San Francisco Symphony debut in 2013.
