Tenor (Shepherd)

This season, JOSE SIMERILLA ROMERO (Shepherd) joins the Nederlandse Reisopera as Alfredo in La traviata and Rodolfo in La bohéme, makes his Los Angeles Philharmonic debut as Jaquino in Fidelio, sings the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto in his Florida Grand Opera and Daytona Symphony debuts, and sings further performances of La traviata with First Coast Opera. He will sing Corrado in Il Corsaro with Opera Festival of Chicago this summer, and next season he joins the ensemble of Hannover State Opera for multiple leading roles and makes his Komische Oper Berlin debut. Other recent performances include the world premiere of Frédéric Chaslin’s Monte Cristo with Los Angeles Opera. These performances mark his San Francisco Symphony debut.

Mr. Romero has won awards from the Chicago International Music Competition, Vero Beach Opera Competition, Camerata Bardi International Vocal Competition, Jensen Foundation International Vocal Competition, Opera Foundation, Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions, Kyrenia Opera Vocal Competition, Vienna International Music Competition, Berlin International Music Competition, Orpheus Vocal Competition, and Tampa Bay Symphony Jack Heller Competition. He has participated in Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy, LA Opera Young Artist Program, Dutch National Opera and Ballet Studio, and Carnegie Hall Weill Music Institute.
